Known superhuman powers: The Silver Surfer can endow himself with Class 100 strength, enabling him to lift (press) over 100 tons. He possesses the Power Cosmic which he can use to generate powerful force blasts or to rearrange molecules. The Surfer travels on a “surfboard” which responds to his mental commands and is as indestructible as he is. He has a Cosmic Awareness which allows him to feel energy around him.

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, who together created most of Marvel Comics’ greatest figures of 1960, had, by the middle of this decade, developed a highly efficient method of collaboration. Lee and Kirby could discuss the basic story outline, Kirby would go home and draw, and, finally, Lee would write the dialog box. Sometimes Kirby Lee would surprise by including elements of history had not asked Lee. Perhaps the biggest surprise was The Silver Surfer, which, by Lee point of view, just sort of “up” in a story Fantastic Four.

The plot concerned the ultimate predator, Galactus, who ate all the planets. Kirby, impossible for a heavy boy, probably did not work alone, has added a “herald” for Galactus, who ran a scout before the big boy, looking for worlds suitable for consumption. Since this shiny, metallic herald, who travelled on a cosmic-powered board-like object looked like a trophy navigation has been nicknamed “The Silver Surfer”.

Tho had not planned for The Silver Surfer to be there, Lee collected on the right character, and a conflict between Galactus and The Surfer became a pivotal point in the history of the resolution. In the end, it was The Silver Surfer, and The Fantastic Four, which has saved the Earth - but has paid a devastating price for its rebellion. Abituato to freedom of the whole universe, the Surfer was limited only to our planet.

Players responsed enthusiasm, and The Surfer became frequently recurring supporting character. When, in 1968, Marvel has launched a major expansion of its line, got a balloon of his own. Unfortunately, Lee’s concept of conflict with the character Kirby’s, and Lee was the editor. When Kirby first heard the balloon was designed, John Buscema had already been exploited to draw. This exacerbated a growing rift between Lee and Kirby, a fracture that eventually led to a Kirby’s leaving Marvel in 1970.

The Kirbyless Surfer, as highlighted in the first issue, led a normal life on a distant planet, the first to enter Galactus; that Kirby had provided him as a being of pure energy that Galactus had created. If this was altered perception of the character, or simply the fact that he was not quite work in the lead position, The Surfer’s book does not catch, and on expected. Some of Lee’s best writing has been in Silver Surfer’s monologues, but it worked best when played against other superheroes, the time when the character was only on the panel. The comic has been pretty well have wished to become a valuable during the first year of action, but lasted only 18 numbers.

The Surfer is back to being a supporting character. One thing to prevent him get back his characteristic was that Lee had been a special attachment to him, and I do not want other writers handle him. In the coming years, the closest he came to stardom was a brief association with The Defenders in early 1970, and the position of lead in a 1978 graphic novel, in which Lee and Kirby King said the first Galactus story, but without the Fantastic Four.

Finally, The Surfer was released from his imprisonment on Earth, and that history has opened new possibilities - not to mention cutting on monologues that had become difficult to distinguish from common, ordinary whining. Perhaps equally important, Lee eased up its exclusive claim to the character. He received his balloon again in 1987, and has been surfing spaceways ever since.
